Dragon boat on Whonnock Lake

For the first time, a dragon boat program for adults is being offered at Whonnock Lake.
The program begins Tuesday, October 9 and will run until November 8 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Ridge Canoe Kayak Club.
There will be a total of 10 sessions, offering excellent outdoor aerobic exercises, and skills are easy to learn.
The cost for the program is $50, and includes boat, paddle, personal floatation device, and instruction.

Whonnock Lake Day 2007


Whonnock Lake Day, Sunday 23 September, was a great success. It was a cool but sunny day and the shows, entertainments, the good foods, and the raffle attracted a good crowd. Especially the children had a ball.

$2000 Byrnes Bursary granted to Jenna Beaudry


The Whonnock Foundation has granted a $2,000 Byrnes Bursary to Jenna Beaudry, a third year student working towards a BA at the University College of the Fraser Valley. Her goal is to become an elementary school teacher. The Directors of Whonnock Foundation are impressed by Jenna’s academic record and her motivation. She is doing everything she can to finance her studies and the bursary will enable her to spend more time on her studies.

The Foundation continues granting amounts of up to $2,000 per four-month period to students from east Maple Ridge enrolled in a college, university, trade school or other post secondary establishment, and with a proven record of good performance. The bursary was named after Brian and Isabel Byrnes.

Bear Spotting


The latest attraction in Whonnock is looking at bears plundering a hazelnut yard at the corner of 272nd Street and 108th Avenue in clear daylight.
